‘with house’ in the south Korea takes the form of a four-story multifunctional building with a house-like structure on top. the overall structure welcomes the owner retail store on the ground floor, rental houses on the first and second floor, and the owner lodge above. rieuldorang workshop aimed to design a volume that stands out from neighboring structures, while marking the identity of the company that bears the same name “with house”.

the architects had to face clear limitations in architectural design which applied to all buildings in the new city. these limitations determine the design that can be approached in the volume, defined by the sunshine limit and the building / land ratio. Due to the nature of the narrow site and the aforementioned rules, it is inevitably difficult to put together an arrangement that arises from the surrounding volumes, and that was exactly their purpose.all images courtesy of yoon, joonhwan

achieve a strong visual connection

to this end, the resulting structure presents itself as an open facade enveloped by two continuous curved walls. the curved wall expresses the flexibility of the fabric and at the same time has the inclusiveness that surrounds the entire building. design team at the rieuldorang workshop sought to create a visual play between the shape of the structure and the name of the brand: a house for the retail space “with the house”. the building was seen as a house and an exhibition hall in the form of a pentagonal gable-shaped volume.

“In general, branding is explained as the process of creating a brand image in the minds of customers. From this point of view, it can be said that the direction of “with home” design has achieved the effect of an architectural branding that reminds people of the fashion image at home. the iconic design, which symbolizes the home of the home, was complemented by the effect of an architectural mark and was able to achieve the dual purpose of a residence as an office building to some extent.
