(KNSI) – The Minnesota Department of Transportation reminds drivers before they load up the Queen Family Truckster Wagon and head into the hills for travel season, they will most likely encounter our other season: road construction.
“While daily traffic volumes in the metro area are still slightly down, we expect Memorial Day travel across the state to be similar to pre-pandemic levels,” said Brian Kary, chief operating officer. of Traffic, MnDOT Regional Transportation Management Center. “Motorists should obey the speed limit and be prepared to slow down or stop, especially when approaching and passing through work zones.”
Drivers should expect rapidly changing road conditions, slower traffic, narrow lanes, lane changes, detours and delays when crossing work areas in the whole state.
Some important work areas in central Minnesota to watch include:
Elk River – Highways 10, 101, and 169 are single lane in each direction at the Highway 10/101/169 interchange; Highway 169 is a single lane in each direction at 197th Avenue; watch for narrow lanes and ramp changes.
