The fire station building in the upazila town of Galachipa was built 20 months ago. The necessary manpower and two fire trucks have also already been affected.

Mohammad Nizamuddin, deputy director of fire and civil defense in Patuakhali, said the adjacent road that connects the town of Galachipa to the fire station is too narrow and unsuitable for the circulation of fire trucks and other emergency vehicles. .

Under these circumstances, they have not yet officially received the station from the Department of Public Works (PWD) that built it. “We have informed the authorities of the PWD and the Municipality of Galachipa of the matter.”

The road belongs to the municipality of Galachipa and as soon as the municipality makes the necessary improvements to the road, it will start operating the station, he also hoped.

According to data from PWD in Patuakhali, as part of a project undertaken for the construction of 156 fire stations in some priority and upazila districts of the country, the construction works of the station of the upazila town of Galachipa have started. in 2017 on 33 decimal places along the road. leading to the old Galachipa launch dock.

Construction was completed in February 2020 at a cost of Tk 3.29 crore and since then they have written to fire and civil defense authorities several times for the official handover of the station, said the Executive Engineer Harun Ar Rashid of Patuakhali PWD.

As the firefighters raised objections to the adjacent road, they have already urged the municipality of Galachipa to rebuild it, he added.

Contacted, the mayor of Galachipa Ahsanul Haque Tuhin said that the road reconstruction process was already underway and that they sent a project proposal to the relevant ministry for the construction of a 1.5 kilometer long road. in reinforced concrete (RCC), at a cost of 4.75 Tk. crore.

They would start working as soon as the fund was allocated, he added.
