Free, safe and efficient transport will be available to all Fijians on election day.
This was made possible as the Fiji Elections Office, Land Transport Authority, Ministry of Rural and Maritime Affairs and Disaster Management and Ministry of Trade, Commerce and Transport signed a memorandum of understanding. agreement to help achieve this in an organized manner.
Election Supervisor Mohammed Saneem has announced that he will publish a free public transport booklet with detailed information on the 101 hubs that will be operated on election day.
“And within individual hubs, the Fiji Electoral Office has worked with transport providers to determine the most appropriate way to deliver transport to those hubs.”
Saneem says alternatives are available for areas that have transportation issues.
“In places like Vunidawa where there are no bus services that run regularly like you would see in Raiwaqa, we have arranged carrier transport for those places and we have also worked in parts of Suva where services buses are not available. as the roads are narrow and we have arranged suitable means of transport such as a minibus or coaster services in these areas.
Saneem says the booklet will be released on December 5.
In the meantime, they have also secured the services of all the Election Day District Advisory Councilors who will oversee the provision of transport to localities.
